Pre-existing conditions
Pet Insurance is meant to protect you and your pet against future health events – this means that we can’t cover any conditions or health issues that occured or were present before your policy’s effective date or during your waiting period.
Preventative care
Our standard plans don’t include preventative pet health care such as wellness exams, vaccinations, flea and tick medicine, and dental care. For coverage of these preventative care items and more, please add Routine Care or Routine Care Plus to your policy.
Spaying or neutering
Benefits for spaying and neutering procedures can be added by including Routine Care Plus with your policy, but aren’t included with our standard plans.
Prescription food
Prescription foods and foods for specialized diets aren’t covered at this time.

How do I add additional pets?
Each pet needs their own plan. On your account page within our app, simply tap “add a pet” and we'll get all your fuzzy friends covered.
What are waiting periods?
After you purchase your plan there is a short waiting period before your coverage begins. For injuries the waiting period is 3 days, for illnesses the waiting period is 14 days, and for cruciate ligament events the waiting period is 6 months. Accident-only policies have a 3 day waiting period from the policy effective date before coverage is available for eligible accidental injuries.
Why do you need medical records?
We want to know all about your pet, their age, breed, and favorite food. Medical records show us the important information we need to provide a great plan for your pet, and what pre-existing health conditions may already exist.
How do I file a claim?
Create a new case inside of our app and we'll start working on it as quickly as possible. Once your claim is processed and approved we’ll have a check in the mail to you in no time at all.
Can I go to any vet?
Yes, you may take your pet to any licensed veterinarian within the US and Canada.
Can I upgrade my policy later?
You may increase your co-insurance or lower your annual deductible during your annual policy renewal period. Please note that increasing your annual limit or adding Routine Care coverage later will require issuing a new policy, which resets waiting periods and pre-existing conditions, so we recommend purchasing as much coverage as possible initially. You can always downgrade your policy and lower your premium at any time.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes, you may cancel at any time. If you cancel and decide to purchase a policy in the future, please understand that any health issues your pet had during your initial plan will be considered pre-existing conditions under future plans and won’t be eligible for coverage.
